Green Pea Soup

1 smoked jowl

8 cups (2 L) water

1 lb (.45 kg) dried split green peas

1 cup (250 ml) grated carrot

1 cup (250 ml) chopped celery

1 large onion

2 tsp (10 ml) marjoram

Salt and pepper to taste

Sour cream

Cooking Instructions:

Combine all ingredients except sour cream in large pot and bring to boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer until tender (2 -4 hours). Remove skin (and fat if desired) from jowl, dice and return to pot. Adjust seasonings if required, add dollop of sour cream as garnish and serve.
